The original name of the Lanzarote, Tite-Roy-Gatra,translates as Rose-coloured-Hill. Lancelloto Malocello,
a trader who arrived on the island in 1312,is credited with making its presence known to the European powers of the time.
The name Lanzarote is the direct translation into Spanish of Lancelot (lancelloto). The original inhabitants which are generally
known as the Gaunches all spoke a similar language but with a slight variation. The Gaunches were believed to be split into hierarchy
with the royal family at the top, the noblemen and then the people.
